Song of the Day: Patty Griffin:Up To The Mountain (MLK Song)

I went up to the mountain
Because you asked me to
Up over the clouds
To where the sky was blue
I could see all around me
Everywhere
I could see all around me
Everywhere

Sometimes I feel like
I've never been nothing but tired
And I'll be walking
Till the day I expire
Sometimes I lay down
No more can I do
But then I go on again
Because you ask me to

Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
Then I hear your sweet voice, oh
Oh, come and then go, come and then go
Telling me softly
You love me so

The peaceful valley
Just over the mountain
The peaceful valley
Few come to know
I may never get there
Ever in this lifetime
But sooner or later
It's there I will go
Sooner or later
It's there I will go

// Great song, get it here. Heard it on an episode of Grey's Anatomy and had to have it. She sings it like the weigh of the world is on her shoulders but she is steady pushing through. The song was written for MLK and I have no doubt that on some days he felt just like these words. //

Dirty Dishes

“A full plate is married, an empty one a widow”

Jane didn’t mean to.
It was an accident.
He was cheating,
She accidentally caught him.

It had been too long, happened too often.
This wasn’t the first time she caught him.
It would be the last.
5 years 6 months 23 days together, married.
He begged for her forgiveness.
Jane screamed for an explanation.
He couldn’t give one.
Jane wouldn’t forgive.
She stabbed him,
Killed him with an unclean knife.
Soiled from that morning’s break

The Next Big Thing

For those of us always looking for some relaxing music please look no further than Melody Gardot and her album Worrisome Heart. She reminds me of Norah Jones in fluxed with something I cant quite put my finger on. Maybe Diana Krall but not quite there, regardless its good music. Relaxing and wistful with a little more power than Jones offers. She also has a little more bluegrass twang to her and a good band behind her that reminds me of  some old Ray Charles at times. The funny thing about me finding this album is that the first song was the iTunes free song of the week. I checked it out and liked it. Then being the wikipedia addict that I am I looked her up. Turns out that she is handicapped she has a nervous system disorder that makes her hypersensitive to sound and noise and she has trouble sitting while performing because of injuries from a car accident. But listen to the CD and you will never know or imagine any of that. She sounds amazing if nothing else take the free download because its good music perfect for a rainy day, or settling down  from a frantic one.
